Jana Horníková after graduating from Brno University of Technology started as a researcher in engineering industry. After 5 years she returned back to the University as a lecturer at the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics. In 2001 she acquired her PhD degree in “Applied mechanics” and in 2009 she was awarded an Associate Professor.
During her employment at the university, Jana Horníková has gained experience in fracture mechanics and computer modelling with a main focus on the finite element method and the boundary element method. She paid a special attention to the problems of shielding effects. The results achieved were published in more than 80 original scientific papers in journals and in proceedings of international conferences.

Jana Horníková is an executive editor of a scientific journal “Engineering Mechanics” that six times a year publishes reviewed papers in the area of technical applications of mechanics. She has been an active member of several organizing teams of various conferences and she is a member of the scientific committee of a regular conference on “Fatigue and Damage Mechanics”. She is a member of the managing committee of “The Czech Society for New Materials and Technologies” which supports international cooperation and research and development in the area of new materials and technologies, including their applications in production practice.
