Travel to the Moon – Vision and Mission of Materials Experts

It was a sunny and cold day when 30 experts from universities, research organisations and industry met on November 15, 2017 in Lausanne, Switzerland to discuss a materials vision and mission for the next European Framework Programme 9 (FP9). Invited by the FEMS (Federation of European Materials Societies) and supported by EuMatT(European Technology Platform for Advanced Engineering Materials and Technologies), by EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale Lausanne), MatSearch Consulting Hofmann, Pully Switzerland, and IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining).

The World Materials Day has been celebrated for several years by several FEMS member societies and its goal is to highlight the importance of materials in our daily lives.

SOCIEMAT has celebrated this year a Commemorative Day at the facilities of the Ceramics and Glass Institute of Madrid, on Wednesday, November the 8th.

The FEMS Executive Committee held their meeting at Thessaloniki during the congress

FEMS recognises researchers of renown by awarding the European Materials Medal, The Innovation Medal and the Materials Science and Technology Prize (Taylor & Francis award) every two years during the FEMS EUROMAT series of conferences. More information on these awards and past medallists can be consulted here. EUROMAT opened Sunday 17th September with a reception and and a wonderful firework display. More than 2200 delegates are expected to attend the conference during this week at beautiful and warm Thessaloniki. The EUROMAT 2017 conference is taking place in Thessaloniki Greece, on 17-22 September 2017, co-organised by the Hellenic Metallurgical Society and the Hellenic Society of the Science and Technology of the CondensedMatter.

Taylor & Francis newsroom announced 13 September 2017 that it is now affiliated with the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS).

The EUROMAT 2019 conference will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 1-5 September 2019, organised by the The Swedish Society for Materials Technology (SFMT)
