SOCIEMAT celebrates the 2018 World Materials Day

As in previous years, SOCIEMAT joined other member societies of FEMS to celebrate the World Materials Day. The World Materials Day event was hold at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on November 7.

During the event the following talks were given by materials experts:

Nanostructured materials: tools to control light, Rosalia Serna, Optical Institute CSIC

What makes us human? The materials in response, José Ygnacio Pastor, Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Also, the SOCIEMAT 2018 prizes were awarded:

SOCIEMAT Caja Ingenieros Award "Best Thesis Degree in Materials Engineering" to Javier González, ICV (CSIC) -URJC, Additive manufacturing of composite materials of polymeric matrix with high concentration of load Inorganic for the processing of mesoporous and 100% inorganic hydroxyapatite implants.

SOCIEMAT Award “Best Master Thesis in Materials” to Adriana Eres, CENIM (CSIC) - UPM, Effect of ausforming on the bainitic transformation in medium carbon steels. Adriana will represent SOCIEMAT in the corresponding competition “FEMS Master Thesis Award” EUROMAT 2019.

SOCIEMAT Award “Diffusion and Scientific Education in Materials” to José Ygnacio Pastor, UPM

Finally, Paloma Fernández, president of FEMS presented to the audience the Federation of European Materials Societies.
