International Day of Ceramics Celebrated in Portugal by the Materials Community
On 12 March, the Department of Materials Engineering and Ceramics (DEMAC) at the University of Aveiro hosted a successful event celebrating the International Day of Ceramics, bringing together students, researchers, and representatives from the ceramics sector.
The initiative was organised by SPM members Inês Vilarinho, José Carlos Almeida (President of the Portuguese Society of Ceramics and Glass), João Lopes Miranda, and Camila Ribeiro, all affiliated with CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials and SPM members, in collaboration with CAD–CICECO and the Materials Students’ Group of the Academic Association of the University of Aveiro (AAUAv).

Battery Science & Innovation Forum 2026
The Portuguese Materials Society SPM), a FEMS member, is pleased to announce the Battery Science & Innovation Forum, taking place on 20–21 May 2026 in Braga, Portugal.
Hosted at the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, this forum will bring together researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and emerging talent from across the energy storage value chain to discuss the latest developments in battery science and technology.
The event is jointly organised by SPM, CeNTI – Centre for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, and dstgroup.
