7th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and their Applications
Dresden, Germany
Scope of the Conference
Since the beginning of the 21st century, magnesium and its alloys are expected to become the most promising metallic light weight materials for a universal use in transportation industry to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Owing to their intrinsic characteristics of light weight, promising mechanical properties, their high recyclability and the reduced prices for primary magnesium and alloys, the interest for implementation of magnesium base materials as a substitution for other materials or as a competitive material for new designs has increased. But there will always be competition between the various materials groups such as light metals, steels and polymers for a use in relevant structures depending on economical aspects, materials and component requirements.
After years of intensive research in Europe and Japan in the last decade, an increase in activities can be encountered in China, Russia and North America, creating new ideas and stimulating competition for advanced developments. The implementation of new alloys in power trains of automobiles and the use of wrought alloys in 3C application are the first indications for the sustainable research and development of the past. Nevertheless, the production of parts by high pressure die casting is still the predominant technology. Wrought alloys are still playing a secondary role. On the one hand there is a lack of knowledge on the behaviour of wrought alloys, and on the other hand there is a limitation of the availability of economical processes and alloys for the universal use for extrusions, sheets and forgings. In the next couple of years, new developments in alloys and processes like continuous casting and strip or twin roll casting will open new opportunities for increased use of wrought alloys.
The 7th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and their Application will cover all aspects of science and technology of magnesium alloys. Most recent and promising developments will be reviewed. The topic areas of the conference are:
A: Alloy development
A1: Cast alloys
A2: Wrought alloys
B: Simulation, Modelling
C: Microstrutural Evolution
D: Mechanical Properties
E: Corrosion and Surface Treatment
F: Recycling, Melting, Cover Gases
G: Casting
H: Wrought Alloys
I: Magnesium Matrix Composites
J: Post processing (joining, machining etc.)
K: Application (automotive, computer, communication, consumer goods)
L: Research Programmes
Deadline for the submission of a paper is 31 March 2006.

International Conference on Aluminium
Essen, Germany
Scope of the Conference
Following very successful conferences on Titanium and Magnesium, DGM will extend the topics of its conference series on non-ferrous metals by launching the first international conference on Aluminium. It will be held in conjunction with the 6th World Trade Fair ALUMINIUM 2006 in Essen, Germany.
The lecture programme will cover subjects ranging from the development of alloys to processing techniques and application. With its industry-wide highly esteemed technical committees for continuous casting, extrusion, drawing and rolling the DGM has gained high reputation with respect to the strategic development of new applications. But also innovative near-net-shaping processes such as casting and forming will be given broad consideration. Simulation and modelling of both materials properties and processing steps will demonstrate how to optimise and to speed up industrial production processes. Not last, however, tailoring materials for purpose by specific manipulation of microstructures, will be in the focus of the conference programme. This includes aluminium based composite materials and increasingly the combination of aluminium with other materials. Joining and surface engineering processes will complete the range of challenging subjects.
Fields of application particularly address the aircraft and automotive industry, but also rail and ship applications are of growing importance. Emerging markets include the electronic industry, architecture and design as well as sports and leisure goods. Recycling and environmental aspects will be referred to as an integral part of each of the application areas.
Both industry and academia are welcome to contribute to the conference programme with their latest developments. Accepted papers will be presented as both a short lecture and a poster that will be individually discussed in a subsequent poster session. The main topics will be introduced by specific keynote lectures presented by renowned scientists or industry representatives.
Deadline for the submission of a paper is 15 March 2006.
