Livio Battezzati, Chemistry graduate from Turin University, developed his academic career in the same University which he left on 1985-86 for a sabbatical year at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge (UK). Associate Professor in Metal Science since 1981, he became full Professor in 2001.

He is author of about 250 scientific papers published in international journals and books. His research activities are on the thermodynamics and phase transformations in alloys, rapid solidification and mechanical alloying, metallic glasses, quasicrystals, microstructures and metastable compounds, industrial processes of alloy solidification and precipitation hardening.

Livio Battezzati is presently responsible of the Materials Science Courses at University of Turin. He has chaired the Physical Metallurgy Centre of the Italian Association for Metallurgy and co-chaired EUROMAT 2011. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Materials and a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin.
