Dariusz Kata is the professor at the AGH-University of Science and Technology, Cracow, Poland. He gained Ph.D. at the same University in 1997. The main subject of his research was the synthesis and processing of novel ceramic composites in the Si-C-N system. Next he was staying two years at the Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan teaching students and conducting research on the covalently bonded solid-solutions. In 2007 he finished his habilitation and currently he is staying at AGH as full professor.

His research is focus on synthesis and sintering of advanced composites and examination of their structure and microstructure. His expertise is extended to thermal dissociation of nitrides and carbides, measurements of structural and functional properties of polycrystalline compounds and preparation and rheological investigation of UV-cure pastes. Recently, he started to explore joining of the materials and shaping by additive manufacturing method.

Professor Dariusz Kata published two books and is co-author of around 140 papers. He was invited as visiting professor in Hokkaido University in Japan (2010, 2012, 2015); Uniwersity of Ceretaro, Mexico (2008), University of Miskolsc, Hungary (2013) and University of Central Florida, USA (2015). He is member of several Advisory Boards in Poland and Japan.
