The winners of this year’s Starpack Students competition were announced on 22 June in London.

12 judges made up an independent panel of packaging and design experts who came together to judge packaging created by young designers. A total of 111 entries were received and marked on innovation, design, sustainability, quality and market potential.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre hosted Titanium 2023 between 12-16 June.

Over the five day programme the conference hosted 500 delegates, 423 sessions and showcased 39 posters across 13 technical areas, covering resource and energy efficiency and materials 4.0. As the conference progressed, it became clear each session reinforced the importance of working together to share ideas to accelerate progress in the reuse and recycling of titanium alloys. The Institute is pleased to announce Sage Publications Ltd as its new journal publishing partner.

We are pleased to announce that Sage has become the new journal publishing partner of IOM3. The partnership, which dates from May 2023, replaces Taylor & Francis (T&F) as the official publishing partner from January 2024 and grants Sage the exclusive right and license to produce, print, digitise, publish, market, and sell the Journals of the Institute.

The John McIntyre Conference Centre at the University of Edinburgh hosted RubberCon 2023 between 9-11 May, focusing on the use of elastomers and elastomeric materials for a wide range of products and applications.

The thematic focus of the conference spanned, elastomer product innovations, material developments, material processing, sustainability, characterisation and testing of materials and products, modelling and smart materials.

This year's Young Persons' Lecture Competition (YPLC) UK final took place on 3 May. Competitors gave a short lecture on an array of topics that included materials, minerals and mining.

First prize went to Georgina Burgoyne Morris of the University of Cambridge, representing the South East with the lecture Stimuli-responsive polymers as self-healing materials. Georgina will go on to represent the UK at the IOM3 Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition final in November.
